NOTICE: ARENA RENOVATION PROJECT
posted Jan 29, 2026, 12:50 PM
Dear WTSC Members,
Over the past few months, the WTSC Board and Program Director have heard informal mention of a potential arena renovation that could require a temporary closure of McCormick Arena in 2026. We want to reassure you that we are actively monitoring the situation and working to gather accurate information as early as possible.
A member of the WTSC Board attended the McCormick Playground Arena Board of Management meeting on January 28, where additional details about the proposed renovation were shared. We are committed to keeping our community informed and prepared for any upcoming changes.
Key Updates From the Meeting
-
The City of Toronto Project Lead has outlined a proposed renovation plan, which is currently awaiting final budget approval.
-
At this time, the anticipated closure period for McCormick Arena is June 2026 to June 2027.
-
The proposed $8 million renovation project would include:
• full replacement of the refrigeration system and ice surface
• changeroom and washroom upgrades
• new fixtures and flooring
• improved accessibility
• layout changes
• updated ventilation, electrical, plumbing, and boilers
• improvements designed to meet future decarbonization standards -
WTSC has been assigned a dedicated City contact who will keep us updated on relocation plans for our programming during the closure.
-
More precise closure timelines are expected by the end of February, once budget approvals are finalized.
-
The WTSC Board will continue to provide regular updates to members, coaches, and staff as we receive new information.
We understand that a closure of this length may raise questions or concerns, and we want you to know that supporting our skaters, families, and coaches through this transition is our top priority. We will work closely with the City and arena management to ensure continuity of programming as much as possible.
If you have any questions about the renovation plans, please reach out to the WTSC Board at wtsc@wtsc.ca. We will do our best to answer your questions or direct them to the appropriate City or arena staff.
Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding.
Warm regards,
WTSC Board
